Using Twitter with Google Wave

This article shows how to post comments to Twitter using a Google Wave Gadget called Tweety The Twitbot. Readers will learn how to add any generic Google Wave Gadget into a Wave they're participanting in. All steps are illustrated with the use of screen shots and descriptions of what actions are needed. For this article, please make sure to allow popups within your browser to add a Gadget into your Wave.

Add a participant to a Wave

If you're using Google Wave as your client and you're logged into your account create a new Wave by clicking on the 'New Wave' link on the far right panel within Google Wave. From here you need to add the Robot into the Wave as a participant. To do this, simply click on + within the Wave window as shown in see Figure 1.

At this point Google Wave will ask you to confirm this action, to do this simply click the Add to contacts button. The address to add the gadget to your wave is included below.

After this step you'll see an authentication message shortly followed by a login screen for Twitter. See Figure 2 for an example screen shot. Please note, depending on your browser settings you may need to temporarily allow popups to see the Twitter login screen.

Shortly after this point you'll need to provide your email or username and password for the Twitter account you want to post Blips to from Google Wave. After successfully providing valid credentials you will be prompted with a warning message to allow Google Wave access to your Twitter account. See Figure 4 for a screen shot.

After this step Twitter will ask you confirm whether or not you want to allow Google Wave to access your Twitter account. Figure 4 shows the two buttons that either allow you to Deny or Allow the Google Wave (Tweety) Gadget access to your account.

In this step you need to 'Allow' Google Wave access to proceed. This is actually the last step to allow you to post Blips from Google Wave to Twitter in one step.

When trying to follow your tutorial, I get the authenicating screen but then it stops there? Any suggestions. Thanks Laura Thompson

Hi Laura, sounds like your browser blocked the twitter popup. Make sure you allow popups from wave.google.com as the majority of Google Wave extensions need some form of authentication or require a new window to be launched during setup... Depending on your browser the setting to control popups will be within your Tools, Internet Options menu. Hope this helps, James
