It was extremely difficult to find extensions, and the interface was messy and cluttered although all that changes from today. Google have now created a “Featured Apps” section to the gallery, in which it will feature extensions the Google Wave team thinks are "particularly useful".

No need to have your own server, write Javascript or anything - just type out a url. Alternatively you can just put a iframe into a blog post and embed a wave straight into your webpage.
